¡Viva la Vida!
“Viva la Vida” is a song that celebrates life and embraces death with honor, light, and freedom. A vibrant tribute to the eternal spirit of Frida.

To commemorate the anniversary of Frida Kahlo’s passing this July 13, Dalia Krohf releases her single “Viva la Vida,” a powerful and emotional song that celebrates life, honors death, and transforms pain into art. With a unique fusion of traditional mariachi and contemporary sensibility, this piece becomes an anthem to redefine departure, suffering, and the fullness of existence.
Inspired by Frida Kahlo’s final days and her deep relationship with artistic creation as a path to redemption, “Viva la Vida” does not mention the painter directly, but evokes her spirit, her legacy, and her ongoing battle with the body, love, and identity. From the very first verse, the song radiates strength and acceptance:
“Hoy dejo la cama, la aguja y la herida / me quito la venda, me arranco la espina”
clearly signaling that this is a farewell—but also a victory over suffering.
The lyrics stand out for their poetic honesty, vivid metaphors, and emotional courage. Through powerful images like “soy un ave nueva cruzando el color” or “mírenme en su risa, ahí estoy en plenitud”, the song resonates with anyone who has experienced loss, illness, or personal transformation. Far from being a lament, it is a celebration of self-love, of art as legacy, and of life as a radical act of resistance.
Musically, “Viva la Vida” draws from traditional mariachi in 3/4 time, with a restrained yet moving arrangement featuring iconic mariachi instruments such as vihuela, trumpets, guitarrón, and layered vocal harmonies. The composition and production by Leon Estrada (Leontercero) and vocals by Majo Sáenz, an emerging duo with an international vision, capture both the nostalgia and brilliance required for a song of this caliber. There are no Day of the Dead makeup clichés here, just truth, soul, and Mexico.
This single marks the beginning of the Dalia Krohf project, which has built a powerful conceptual approach where each song is part of a larger narrative. With a raw, elegant, and symbolic visual aesthetic, Dalia Krohf connects with new generations through authenticity, empowerment, and the exploration of Latin American cultural identity.
“Viva la Vida” is not just a song: it is a farewell letter, a declaration of freedom, an invitation to live boldly.
